During the 2023-2024 school year, we will highlight our AMAZING Martinsville District Staff! Each one of our staff members began teaching for a reason and we've asked them to walk down memory lane and "REMEMBER YOUR WHY"...here’s a walk with Deb Schaljo, Science teacher at MHS…

Ms. Schaljo is a HS Biology/Chemistry teacher at MHS. She attended SIU-E & Eastern Illinois University with a major in Zoology and a minor in Botany. Ms. Schaljo serves as the Scholastic Bowl Coach and is the Sophomore class sponsor. She has been in Martinsville for 7 years and has been teaching a total of 25 years.

She loves the up to date facilities that she has in her classroom in the state of the art lab. She most enjoys watching students grow and develop. She chose education as her field because she “loves teaching…it’s the only thing I’m good at!” Ms. Schaljo added another example of why she loves teaching: ”I had an experience this year in which the conversation we were having in class that the students were so interested in what we were talking about that they did not get up and leave when the bell rang but continued to listen, interject, and ask questions. I love teaching them things that are relevant and important to them.”

Thanks Ms. Schaljo for working with students both inside the classroom and in their extra curricular activities!
