In collaboration with local law enforcement, our Board of Education made the decision at the March meeting tonight to not be in session on April 8th (the day of the solar eclipse). Student safety is our first priority and with the uncertainty of traffic and potential influx of visitors to our community, we feel that it is necessary for the school buildings to be closed. The calendar will be amended to reflect this as a non attendance day and adjustments will be made accordingly to the final day of attendance in May for students. We understand the amazing learning opportunities that our students will have during the solar eclipse; therefore, we have created fun learning packets to send home on Friday, April 5th. Our hope is that students can experience the eclipse first hand at home with safety glasses that will be sent as part of the learning packets. Leading up to the event, students will have lessons at school that explain the phenomenon that will take place in Martinsville (which is in the path of the totality). We wanted our families to know of the school closure on April 8th so planning can be done in advance. We do hope that you take advantage of the many activities that the Martinsville Fair Association is planning and we will provide a listing of that in the packet as well. Thank you for your understanding!
