8th grade students and their parents are invited to attend freshmen orientation on Tuesday, March 26 at 7:00 PM in the Martinsville Jr.-Sr. High School Media Center.
We will discuss course options, recommended paths for college/vocational/workforce interests, graduation requirements, grading, and other information important to know as students move into the world of high school.
Students will be given a form highlighting freshmen class options during the meeting so that they may take it home to discuss over spring break and return by April 2. If you have any questions, please call (217) 382-4132.
**There is also a Junior High Scholastic Bowl Home Meet preceding freshman orientation. It is anticipated to end by 7 PM, but we may start a little later if the Meet lasts longer than 7 PM so all 8th graders can attend orientation.

Martinsville Elementary's so proud of the effort and work put in this week as students in 3rd - 6th grade took the IAR. Students came to school daily ready to slam the exam. MES would also like to thank our amazing PTO for donating prizes used to motivate our students in various areas during testing. We will draw the winners on Monday.

In collaboration with local law enforcement, our Board of Education made the decision at the March meeting tonight to not be in session on April 8th (the day of the solar eclipse). Student safety is our first priority and with the uncertainty of traffic and potential influx of visitors to our community, we feel that it is necessary for the school buildings to be closed. The calendar will be amended to reflect this as a non attendance day and adjustments will be made accordingly to the final day of attendance in May for students.
We understand the amazing learning opportunities that our students will have during the solar eclipse; therefore, we have created fun learning packets to send home on Friday, April 5th. Our hope is that students can experience the eclipse first hand at home with safety glasses that will be sent as part of the learning packets.
Leading up to the event, students will have lessons at school that explain the phenomenon that will take place in Martinsville (which is in the path of the totality). We wanted our families to know of the school closure on April 8th so planning can be done in advance. We do hope that you take advantage of the many activities that the Martinsville Fair Association is planning and we will provide a listing of that in the packet as well.
Thank you for your understanding!
