Our 8th-grade students recently participated in an Etiquette Luncheon held in the junior high school gym, beautifully set with this year’s prom decorations. The event provided a valuable opportunity for students to practice dining etiquette and conversational skills in a formal setting.

A special thank you to Jennifer Bishop from the Clark County Extension Office, Martinsville On The Move – Education Committee, and Mrs. Parcel’s Catering Classes for preparing an excellent meal. We also appreciate the community members and school administrators who served as “heads of the table,” helping guide conversation and create a welcoming atmosphere for our students.

Mrs. Manuel's class was off to the races as they learned all about the Kentucky Derby and created their racing color silks. They also took time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by designing their own festive sombreros. Meanwhile, in 1st grade, Mrs. Young’s classroom was full of royalty! The boys were “Kings for a Day” and treated like true royalty. Now, the girls are eagerly preparing for their upcoming “Queen for a Day” celebration, and we love seeing the kindness returned as the boys get ready to make it just as special.

This week, we proudly celebrate our amazing staff at Martinsville Elementary 💙 We celebrate our teachers who lead our classrooms each day by guiding, encouraging, and inspiring our students to grow. We celebrate our paraprofessionals who step in wherever needed, supporting students and teachers in countless ways. Quite simply, we could not do what we do without them. We celebrate our school nurse, who cares for the health and well-being of our students by offering comfort, compassion, and care to every child who walks through her door. We celebrate our custodians who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our building clean, safe, and ready for learning each and every day. We celebrate our cooks who prepare meals that fuel our students for learning, our secretary who keeps our school running smoothly and is often the first friendly face you see, and our bus drivers who safely transport our students to and from school each day with care and dedication. Together, we are one team, working toward a common goal, keeping our students safe, healthy, loved, and learning every single day. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible businesses and community members who have provided treats, gifts, and gift cards for our staff this week. Your support means so much and helps make this week extra special. To our staff, please know this: we don’t just celebrate you this week. We appreciate you every single day. You are the heart of Martinsville Elementary, and you are the reason our students succeed.

It’s an ABC Countdown to Summer in Mrs. Young’s 1st grade! Today was “I is for Ice Cream” and that meant ALL the sprinkles and toppings! Smiles were big and the treats were even sweeter.

It’s been a busy week at MES! Our students have been hard at work researching and building bird feeders, learning about gardens and planting seeds, and sharing their love of reading. We love seeing hands-on learning and curiosity in action! A special highlight, Miss Paula had two sweet readers stop by to share a story with her today. Moments like these remind us what it’s all about. Great things are growing at MES!
